Una magia más oscura

4.5 / 5 estrellas.La trama de Victoria Schwab es bastante compleja, muy bien creada y atrapante. Lo único que le critico son los momentos en los que faltaba un poco de acción y de "ritmo", pero el resto... increíble.

The story fascinated me from the very beginning. The book has a quick start, there isn't a long and enigmatic beginning, the author introduces the information about the magic, and the different Londons in a clever way, mingled with conversation, and the main character thoughts, and I enjoyed that.

The characters are quite simple, you can easily grasp their personalities, the motives that moves them to do what they do. Again, there are no obscure reasons to act this way or that. That could be seen as simplistic, but I think there's a smart reason for it. This book, though good and with a lot of action, serves as introduction for the series, and I'm sure there's plenty of time for plot twists and schemes.

The magic system is not that unique, magicians who can control the elements and cast spells, runes with power, etc. But the main character and his antagonist are special, Antari, they can use their blood to command magic, and travel to the other worlds, which are sealed for anyone else. The worldbuilding is what makes this interesting, the four Londons, the only resemblance between the worlds. One consumed by the magic, lost for ever, one starving for magic, and blood, one flourishing, in balance, and one without magic, out world.

The writing style is simple, straight to the point, no playful verse, no stravagant vocabulary. Sometimes that is good, it can distract us from the story itself, but in my opinion, a more elaborate prose wouldn't hurt in this case.

Realmente me gustó mucho esta historia y sus personajes. También me gustó la manera que tiene V. E. Schwab de construir mundos y de dotar cada uno de ellos de una atmósfera distintiva. de cierta manera, estos mundos me recordaron un poco Neverwhere de Neil Gaiman.
Personaje favorito: Lila. Me gustó su fuerza. Kell quedó en segundo lugar muy cercano a Lila.
Personaje que no me gustó: Los gemelos Dane por su desmedida ambición.
Lo que no me gustó: Hubo un par de cosas un poco predecibles pero aparte de eso el libro me encantó.
