Una vez más, me sumergí en la fascinante prosa de Malenka Ramos y emergí con su última obra, ‘Los Crímenes de Hamlet', en las manos, una publicación de Contraluz. Si ya consideraba su obra anterior, ‘Lo que habita dentro', como notable, este nuevo thriller ha superado, y con creces, mis expectativas, transformándose en una adicción literaria que me cautivó durante toda una jornada. La trama se centra en la figura de Hamlet, un temible asesino en serie que, ya en su septuagésima década de vida, ha pasado veinte años en un centro de máxima seguridad en Madrid. Las escenas de sus crímenes, perpetrados siempre contra mujeres de un perfil específico, poseen una peculiaridad macabra. Hoy día, un perturbador reflejo de su modus operandi se manifiesta en el norte de España, precisamente en el valle de Caín. Ante este hecho, los inspectores Antía e Ismael, con base en Asturias y Madrid respectivamente, se embarcan en la misión de resolver este misterio, incluso solicitando la colaboración del propio Hamlet.

No obstante, esta no es una historia de thriller convencional. Lo que he resumido es meramente el comienzo de una trama que se despliega en direcciones aún más oscuras y siniestras. El reciente derrame de sangre en la región asturiana no queda sin respuesta, tal como se recalca en la narración con la frase repetida: “Sangre por sangre: del bosque no se sale”. Ramos vuelve a evidenciar su maestría literaria, infundiendo una frescura innovadora a los géneros del terror y el thriller con su estilo de escritura dinámico y su capacidad para evocar atmósferas cargadas de tensión y horror. Su narración se nutre de una variedad de elementos y técnicas literarias, incluyendo descripciones detalladas de entornos naturales, atmósferas absorbentes, saltos temporales, y la inclusión de la perspectiva de varios personajes. A esto, se suma un componente sobrenatural que se entrelaza de manera tan orgánica que aporta un matiz de realismo mágico a la trama, amplificando su unicidad y su potencial para provocar terror.

Respecto a los personajes, estos presentan una individualidad pronunciada, destacando particularmente Antía. Por otro lado, la representación de la mente tortuosa y tenebrosa de Hamlet por parte de Ramos constituye un logro literario que deja al lector con escalofríos recorriendo su espina dorsal. La novela concluye de manera imprevista, manteniendo el suspenso hasta las últimas páginas y desvelando secretos que transforman radicalmente la percepción de los personajes. ‘Los Crímenes de Hamlet' se distingue como un thriller repleto de intensidad, ritmo frenético, secretos y misterios, una maldad desbordante y un desenlace que te dejará atónito. Si te encuentras indeciso sobre si iniciar esta lectura, permíteme instarte a hacerlo. Son pocos los libros que logran incitar el mismo nivel de emoción y terror que esta obra. Personalmente, daría lo que fuera por borrar este libro de mi memoria y así poder volver a experimentar su emocionante recorrido sin anticipar nada. ‘Los Crímenes de Hamlet' es, sin duda, una experiencia invaluable. Tanto si eres un neófito en la obra de Ramos o un lector fervoroso de su trabajo, puedo asegurarte que esta novela te sumergirá en un viaje emocionante que te mantendrá pegado a tu asiento, ansiando más.

Once again, I immersed myself in the captivating prose of Malenka Ramos and emerged with her latest work, ‘The Crimes of Hamlet', in my hands, a publication of Contraluz. If I already considered her previous work, ‘What Dwells Within', as remarkable, this new thriller has far surpassed my expectations, transforming into a literary addiction that captivated me for an entire day. The plot focuses on the figure of Hamlet, a fearsome serial killer who, now in his seventies, has spent twenty years in a maximum security facility in Madrid. The scenes of his crimes, always perpetrated against women of a specific profile, have a macabre peculiarity. Today, a disturbing reflection of his modus operandi is manifested in northern Spain, precisely in the valley of Caín. In light of this, the inspectors Antía and Ismael, based in Asturias and Madrid respectively, embark on a mission to solve this mystery, even seeking the cooperation of Hamlet himself.

However, this is not a conventional thriller story. What I have summarized is merely the beginning of a plot that unfolds in even darker and sinister directions. The recent bloodshed in the Asturian region does not go unanswered, as emphasized in the narrative with the repeated phrase: “Blood for blood: you don't leave the forest”. Ramos once again demonstrates her literary mastery, infusing an innovative freshness into the genres of horror and thriller with her dynamic writing style and her ability to evoke atmospheres laden with tension and horror. Her narration is nourished by a variety of literary elements and techniques, including detailed descriptions of natural environments, absorbing atmospheres, temporal jumps, and the inclusion of the perspective of several characters. To this is added a supernatural component that is interwoven in such an organic way that it brings a touch of magical realism to the plot, amplifying its uniqueness and its potential to provoke terror.

Regarding the characters, they exhibit pronounced individuality, particularly Antía. On the other hand, Ramos's portrayal of Hamlet's torturous and dark mind is a literary achievement that leaves the reader with chills running down their spine. The novel concludes unexpectedly, maintaining suspense until the last pages and revealing secrets that radically transform the perception of the characters. ‘The Crimes of Hamlet' stands out as a thriller filled with intensity, a frenetic pace, secrets and mysteries, overflowing evil, and a denouement that will leave you stunned. If you are undecided about starting this read, allow me to urge you to do so. Few books manage to incite the same level of emotion and terror as this work. Personally, I would give anything to erase this book from my memory and thus be able to experience its exciting journey anew, without anticipating anything. ‘The Crimes of Hamlet' is, without a doubt, an invaluable experience. Whether you are a novice in Ramos's work or a fervent reader of her work, I can assure you that this novel will immerse you in an exciting journey that will keep you glued to your seat, craving more.
