I was absolutely captivated by Everlost, published by Nocturna. This extraordinary book offers a unique perspective on the afterlife, taking readers on an amazing journey. Unlike many urban fantasies I've encountered, Everlost doesn't rely on existing myths. Instead, it creates an entirely original world with well-crafted rules and magical elements. The immersive world-building makes it easy to believe that such a place between life and death could exist, although I'm not sure if I'd want to visit it.

Everlost is rich with cultural and historical references. In this world, not only people but also objects and buildings can end up there for various reasons. The Twin Towers, for example, serve as a key setting in the story and hold significant meaning for certain characters. Other recognizable real-life objects and historic events are seamlessly integrated into the narrative, enhancing the believability of Everlost.

The characters in Everlost are incredibly well-developed and engaging. The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, allowing readers to gain insight into the lives of five main characters: Nick, Allie, Lief, Mary, and the McGill. Each of them brings their own unique qualities to the story, making for a compelling reading experience. Nick evolves into a powerful character, Allie is intelligent and perceptive, Lief is kind-hearted, Mary is complex and enigmatic, and the McGill is intricate and difficult to describe.

The novel's action is not typical, but rather a series of interconnected events that drive the story forward. Each event is essential, setting the stage for the subsequent ones. The book is filled with suspense and wonder, making it a true page-turner. However, one aspect that could be improved is the relationship between Mary and Nick. Their love for each other seems somewhat underdeveloped and more like infatuation than genuine love. Nonetheless, this is just a minor point in an otherwise fantastic book.
