This is the first horror book I've read (not including The Strain trilogy by Guillermo del Toro), and I really enjoyed it! I mean, I felt a lot of tension, but it wasn't really frightening.

Danny's character was a big surprise for me. I haven't seen the movie, so I didn't know the plot. I wasn't expecting a cute five year old boy with his empathy, a boy so smart and kind, with a rare ability to know things he shouldn't. This was what I liked the most about the book.
I hated Jack's character from the first chapter, when he was being interviewed by Mr. Ullman. He's a cocky bastard, and even if he regrets the mistakes he's made, he isn't a good person by any standards, so I wasn't at all surprised with his character development, it fited him just fine.
Wendy wasn't anything special, but I liked her anyway.
Dick Halloran was my second favorite character. I enjoyed every one of his chapters.

The character's thoughts, the insight the author gave us on them, was amazing. I felt every single character was real, they problems and fears were sharp and precise.
It was a great book, and I'm looking forward to read more from Stephen King.
