“The Wolf” by Samuel Bjork is a detective novel that follows Holger Munch, an inspector in the Oslo Police Department, and his team in the Homicide Unit as they investigate the murder of two children in the middle of a field. The case is extremely complex and shares similarities with another unsolved murder that took place in a neighboring country in 1993. As the team investigates, they discover that nothing is as it seems and they face a series of subplots that fit into the story. The book is a prequel to the “Holger Munch and Mia Krüger” series, although it can be read as a standalone novel. Bjork begins the story with a small introduction to the lives of the Homicide Unit members, which makes the beginning slow-paced. However, gradually, the plot of the police investigation takes over and becomes the main focus of the book.

In addition to the plot, the strength of the novel lies in its characters. The investigators on the team have distinct and real personalities, and they undergo significant character development throughout the story. Holger, the inspector, is the author's favorite due to his exceptional treatment of his team, while Mia is a special character that surprises the reader. Although it is a light read in terms of writing style, there are several subplots that fit into the story, so it is recommended to read when sufficient time is available. The SUMA edition features a Spanish translation by Aurora Echevarría Pérez, which maintains the dark and tense tone of the original story. In summary, “The Wolf” is a detective novel that hooks the reader and makes them feel like part of the investigation team. Although there are some moments with excessive information and some things left to discover, overall, it is a good story worth reading if you enjoy pure and simple detective novels.

“El lobo” de Samuel Bjork es una novela policial que sigue a Holger Munch, un inspector de la Policía de Oslo, y su equipo de la Unidad de Homicidios mientras investigan el asesinato de dos niños en medio del campo. El caso es extremadamente complicado y comparte similitudes con otro asesinato sin resolver que tuvo lugar en un país vecino en 1993. A medida que el equipo investiga, descubren que nada es lo que parece y se enfrentan a una serie de subtramas que encajan en la historia. El libro es la precuela de la serie “Holger Munch y Mia Krüger”, aunque puede ser leído como un libro independiente.
