4/5 YES. I've finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Greatest challenge in my life is done. The first time I tried to read it was ages ago, basically when it was published in Spain. I promise I tried but I couldn't get through it, Voldemort scared me. So I haven't grown up waiting for the next book or movie to come out, I just didn't care. You can kill me now. But, here I am, almost 22 years old and I've done it. I've read it in English and I managed to finish it. As you can see I'm proud of myself. And now I wonder, what was I thinking when I was a kid? Was I crazy or something? This book is simply amazing. I can understand potterheads now. First of all is addictive: I read and read and read and couldn't stop until I've finished. Everything happens so fast...I want more! (I know I know, I've 6 more books waiting for me). I've fallen in love with Rowling's direct writing style and it was very easy to follow in English even if it's my third language. Well I have to point out an exception: Hagrid. Is he Irish or Scottish or something? It took me a while to decipher his slang. Speaking of him, Hagrid and Dumbledore became my favourite characters followed very close for Ron Weasley. Unpopular opinion coming: I didn't like Hermione Granger, she got on my nerves! I haven't rated it 5/5 stars because I had watched the movie and I remembered almost everything, so reading the book was not as surprising as it migh be if I hadn't watched the movie before. Anyway, I'm sure this will change in the next books because I can't remember the other movies. I have nothing more to say, everyone know what Harry Potter is about, everyone has read it before me and there are tones of opinions and reviews out there so I won't bother you more. Just say thanks to La Cafetería de Audrey's book club and specially to my buddy readers this season because thanks to them I gave Harry Potter another chance and it was the best decision ever :) |
